Puffy Eyes

Well every morning in anticipation of when the doctors round on the pts, they get us up for blood tests, temperature readings, blood pressure checks and to weigh us. This morning when they did that my weight was up 12#-ouch. No wonder I feel so bloated. Then when I woke up I couldn't open my eyes since there was so much swelling around my eyes.

They give lots of fluids to flush the kidneys and protect them from sludge of the cells breaking apart. At this point there aren't as many to break apart so they are willing to give me some Lasix, a diuretic, to push out some of the fluid today. He wants me down 2# by afternoon. Hope it all comes from my eyes because they are really tough to open still. If I had a way to capture it to put as the photo I would but it's better this way.

Okay guys go out and have a god Sunday for me. See some nature, commune with some birds. And hug the people most important to you. love to my friends-taf

12 pounds - Mom will be so happy. I hope you aren't in a lot of pain! I keep invisioning the scene from Rocky when Rocky said, "Cut me, Mic." You probably never saw that movie.
Anywho...I do have a serious question. The 15 days to be tested, is that 15 days from the day you started chemo? Or 15 days when the chemo is done? I hope you feel better. I'll be thinking of you all day and looking for another blog update. I love you.

Oooo, I had that experience after surgery when I woke up to discover they'd taped my eyes shut (after overlooking my allergy to tape). Weird experience and not much fun till you can see again.

Hope the diuretic helps reduce your puffiness quickly and that you're getting some good rest in the meantime.

I saw a beautiful pileated woodpecker this morning and thought of you. Woodpeckers MUST be your totem, since they seem to be wherever you are. So I'll leave you with an image of that majestic bird tapping on your window at Duke to wish you well.

Take good care, my friend, and know that you're in all our thoughts.

Love,
Angela

Hey, friend! I just got home from Fripp, where there is no cell phone signal or internet access, so returned to get your news that chemo started already. I'm so glad you were able to get in so fast, though I am sitting here in Asheville feeling VERY far away from you. Look for a visit next week, when I come through for a day in Raleigh.
So, for Fathers Day we all went to the Biltmore Estate for a 3 mile bike ride---it was 72, a little overcast, breezy, beautiful mountain feel(are you there?) We ran into Teresa Collins and her family who had the same idea. We went "off road" with the boys for their first mtn biking and as I was going up a very small incline(though long), the chain fell off my bike, my feet were stuck in the cages, and down I went with the grace of watermelon falling off a truck. And those little angels, did they run towards me with concern for my well being? Oh, no. Jacob yelled up the hill, chastising, "Mom, it was dad's turn to fall next!" and Eli yelled, "Nice one, mom!"
Thanks for blogging---I feel a little less disconnected. Shannon
